Preparation Tips To Get You Organised Before Moving Day

Packing cardboard boxes for moving

Moving day is often stressful. Many people dread it, knowing that a hectic day is ahead and a lot of work needs to be done. However, organising yourself in advance can make a world of difference, leading to a far less stressful experience. Here’s a few tips to help you get started with planning.

Plan In Advance

Most people know in advance when they’ll be moving. Ideally, you’ll get some plans in place around a month before the big day to ensure moving goes smoothly. It’s a good idea to have a checklist which includes all the steps you need to take on the day, as well as one which lists items to pack in order of convenience. Some things can be stored for a few weeks, so you can get these packed in advance. However, other items like kitchen equipment may need to be available for use right up to the night before moving day.

As well as that, it would pay to have a system which helps you keep track of where your things belong. For example, you may choose to get purple stickers to place on boxes and wrapped items which are intended to be in the bathroom.

Have An Arrivals Box

Not many people will be able to unpack all of their belongings and get their new home ready for use on moving day. Many people find that it takes at least a week to get their items into their new home and start living normally. Although a little disorganisation is to be expected, you’ll certainly need a few essential items to get you through this phase. It’s a good idea to dedicate a box or two to things you really can’t live without. For example, you may pack the kettle, some cutlery, a couple of dishes and mugs, medications, clothes and anything else you’ll need during the first few days.
