Use The Right Size Boxes
Smaller boxes are easier to carry. Always use the smallest box you can for fragile items without having to force them in. The less room there is for them to wobble around inside, the less likely it is that your items will break. If you can’t find a box that’s a good fit, use a slightly bigger one and add padding into any extra space.
As well as your box being the right size, it also need to be of a good quality. Flimsy boxes could break, leading to your item falling out. For heavier items, even a good quality box could struggle, so use reinforcements if necessary.
Use Special Boxes & Dividers
For things like glassware, special cardboard boxes are available with dividers in. This stops your glasses from hitting against each other while you move, leading to a much lower chance of them cracking or breaking. If you can’t find a special box for this, you can easily make your own dividers using spare pieces of cardboard. It may take a little extra effort to do this, but it will be worth it so you can transfer everything safely.
Pack Smart
When you’re packing boxes with a few items, always put the heaviest and largest things on the bottom. This helps ensure nothing gets squished and that the box is supported in the right places. It also makes the boxes easier to carry, which makes your fragile items safer to move.
Moving House Plants
House plants can be particularly difficult to move, and plant owners will need to prepare them first. It’s recommended that you don’t water them within a couple of days of moving, as the extra moisture will add weight and could drip. It’s usually best to wrap plants if you can, ensuring they’re not wrapped too tightly. You can also purchase special plant wrappings which provide a little padding without damaging your plants.
